Space Planning and Facility Evaluation

For many churches there is confusion over where to begin the process of just considering a capital project. A great starting point for planning future expansions is a detailed facility assessment. In this process, our design team will evaluate the architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical components of your existing facility and provide you with a detailed report highlighting both areas of concern and potential opportunity. The final report all will include a basic cost budget assessment of needed repairs and upgrades. This report becomes the foundation for any future steps in a capital project.

Master planning

Churches grow over time in reaction to both the needs of their community and their congregations pressing needs. Through the master planning process, we can help you develop a plan to address your immediate needs and prepare for your long-term vision. Whether you are considering a new site or your existing facility, this service will help everyone understand the maximum growth potential of your site and serve as a guide to implement growth over time.

A typical master plan will include an 1) evaluation of ministry and vision. 2) Interviews to gain an understanding of the current facility and ministry needs. 3) Researching municipal zoning and planning constraints.  The results of this process include a master layout with phasing plan, schematic floor plan layouts, and colored exterior elevations. In addition it will include financial results for your budgeting process.

Architectural Design

Our philosophy for the design process is centered on the involvement of our owners. We understand these church buildings are not the product of our staff, but of your dreams and the goals of your ministry. We work very hard to create a team atmosphere between our staff and your building committee so that ideas can flow freely between all parties. The key to any successful design is the transfer of information regarding urgent ministry needs, budgets, congregational activities, future plans, and the overall mission of your church.

Stewart Cooper Newell Architects is a full service architectural firm. This means we can assist our clients in all five (5) phases of the design process: Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, Bidding and Negotiations, and Construction Administration.

Interior Design

Our standard services include the design and selection of materials and colors for our clients. However, many clients need more assistance than our standard services. In these instances, we can develop a specific program that is based on our experience with church architecture and develop a more detailed interior design product that can support your ministry. A church is a place for experiences and each space must be designed to encourage and enhance these experiences.

Fundraising Support

One of the most difficult parts of a church’s capital project is the fundraising. We understand the numerous financial commitments both your church and your congregation make on a weekly basis. The additional request for the congregation to financially support a building program can be stressful. Stewart Cooper Newell Architects works with the building committee to prepare final renderings, graphics, and reports that can be presented to the church membership to help explain the project and why it needed. In addition, we make several professional presentations to the congregations that allow the opportunity to questions to be asked and answered by our team.
